Ramaswamy expresses interest in Ohio Senate seat and considers Trump Cabinet
Former presidential candidate and pharmaceutical entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has expressed interest in potentially filling the Ohio Senate seat currently held by Sen. JD Vance (R), or serving in a future Cabinet under President Trump.
"I would seriously consider it if asked to serve," Ramaswamy stated regarding the Senate seat that could become vacant if Vance were to assume the vice presidency under a Trump administration. Ramaswamy indicated he has not yet discussed this matter with Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, a moderate Republican who would appoint an interim replacement should Vance vacate his seat.
Vance, elected in 2022, would trigger a special election in 2026 to complete the remaining two years of his initial term if he departs from the Senate. Ramaswamy shared his thoughts with NBC, stating, "I haven't spoken with Gov. DeWine about this yet, but I'm eager to see what the future may hold. If the opportunity arises, I would give it serious consideration."
In addition to the Senate seat, Ramaswamy has engaged in discussions with former President Trump about potential roles in a future administration. "President Trump and I have explored various possibilities," Ramaswamy revealed. "We have regular conversations. Most recently, we spoke late one night following a tragic incident over the weekend."
